Cabwaylingo Presbyterian Chapel has been a ministry of FPC since its inception in 1956, serving the spiritual, physical, and emotional needs of the residents in southern Wayne County. The Chapel is located in Dunlow, WV, 40 miles south of Huntington, WV. While rich in history and tradition, Dunlow is an impoverished rural community with significant needs. It suffers from high unemployment, poverty, and lack of opportunities for youth and adults. While the needs are great, there are few organizations to meet these needs. With supervisory, consulting, and financial assistance from FPC, Cabwaylingo Presbyterian Chapel has an exceptional opportunity to be an agent of transformation in rural southern Wayne County and the three adjoining counties.

The Chapel has initiated and developed several community-based ministries over the years: after-school children’s ministry, Vacation Bible School, summer youth trips, 4-H Club, Girl Scout Troop, food pantry, clothing closet, school backpack ministry, shoes for kids, Wayne County Work Camp, and a wide-ranging home rehabilitation ministry.

In 2003, Bill Likens was hired as the Chapel’s Director of Community Outreach Ministries. Bill is a life-long resident of Dunlow and a fruit of the Chapel’s ministry to the community. He was active in the Chapel’s youth ministry, baptized and married in the Chapel.  Bill and his family bring a strong commitment to the area and a passion to serve the people of Dunlow. In 2014, Bill’s wife, Addie, was hired as the Chapel’s Director of Children’s Ministry.

With a grant from the Noroton Presbyterian Church, local foundations, hundreds of donors and 6,000 volunteer work hours, the 9,000 square foot Dunlow Community Center was completed in 2014. The Community Center hosts a half-court basketball gym, showers, exercise room, food pantry, youth lounge, computer lab and conference room.
